Music Boat – for times that are a-changing

Come gather ’round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin’
Then you better start swimmin’ or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin’

Music Boat brings together a community of people exploring how to listen, learn, and create for our times, through sonic art and the many musical traditions of the world. We are a collaborating team of Europe-based musicians hailing from Mexico, Germany, Egypt, Greece, Iran, Lebanon, Palestine, Spain and the UK, committed to innovative styles of music teaching, fostering new connections across the borders and distances that currently divide us.

We promote a collaborative approach, and during 2020 and 2021 we offered online interactive workshops and courses that allowed students to listen in new ways, and to make music through new forms of participation and shared experience. We understand music-making as a way of expanding our imagination and helping us move beyond our individual spheres, perhaps even entering the spheres of others.

We are currently taking a break, but Music Boat will develop through the community contributing to it.
If you are interested in leading a course or activity please get in touch.

Music Boat is run in association with SOAS, University of London
