In this workshop, Ramy Maalouf will share some of his creative innovations in flute technique and expression, enabling flute players to enrich their playing with a range of new skills. Among the extended techniques introduced will be microtonal tuning (Levantine modes), Arab ornamentation, split tones, beatboxing on Levantine rhythms, and a range of vocalizations to be performed while playing. The workshop will serve as a taster for a longer course to be run in 2021, which will encompass numerous other aspects of experimental flute practice for Middle Eastern traditions.
This workshop is ideal for competent and advanced flute players looking for ways to make their work stand out from the crowd. You will need an open-hole flute to benefit fully.
